Our Resident football-mad Ambient Lounge Twin Couch Expert says:

Highlights: Croatia's surprise goal to shock the locals, Oscar's bright performance.

Lowlights: Rubbish penalty given by the Japanese referee with a feather-like touch on Fred - which killed what could have been a tense finish. Terrible goalkeeping from Croatian number 1.

Game one and it was a high tempo and good quality start to the Wolrd Cup. We sat up bleary-eyed into the week hours hoping for a good game, and it didn't disappoint. Croatia played their hearts out, moved the ball well and by no means were overawed. They can consider themselves pretty unlucky in the end and the 3-1 score didnt reflect the true closeness of the game. But for some dodgy decisions and a rubbish penalty they might have got a draw out of it.

Brazil rode their luck, played with 'reserved flair' and got the result. It's probably good for the World Cup overall.

Bring on the Socceroos tomorrow!
